Why Do We Need a Room Air Purifier

If you haven’t known, our home often has air that is dirtier than the air around it. Most pollutants come through the doors and windows of our house and get trapped in fabrics, bedding and carpets. Not only has that, particulates and gasses from inside the house saturate the air and cigarette smoke spam into almost everything.

In a humid environment, mold, bacteria and mildew can breed. You can also find that most homes have pet dander, dust and dust mites. Many of the furnishings can also release gasses found in their components.

So it is a brainer that $250 million is spent on room air purifiers every year!

How Does Air Purifier Work?

Typically, a room air purifier works with an ionizing system. A HEPA filter captures at least 99.97% of airborne particulates and it is a standard set by the Department of Energy. A room air purifier with a HEPA filter circulates the air through a special fiber system to tray any tiny particulates.

Even stricter is the ultra-low penetration air (ULPA). A room air purifier that uses an ionizer will create electrons and discharges them to attach to air molecules and form ions. The ions will then attach to particulates, making them more attractive to the filter.

When the filter is fresh, the air purifier that uses both an ionizer and a HEPA filter works excellently. The ionized particles are returned to the room if the filter is not working well. They felt to the floor or become attached to positively charged surfaces.

This can cause the filters in other appliances to be dirtier! Your vacuum or air conditioner will not work as well as before. A home with an above average amount of pollutants like pets and smoke can go through a HEPA filter more quickly.

Remember that HEPA filters come in different sizes and capacities. They only have to meet a particulate standard to have the name “HEPA.” Make sure that you read the manual and understand the limitation of the HEPA filter in your room air purifier. Proper supervision and maintenance is needed and your room air purifier can make your home a healthier place for years to come.
